Buffalo River Reflections

This summer, the Bridge Adventure Program went on its annual week-long adventure excursion to America’s first nationally-designated river – the Buffalo National River in north central Arkansas.

Situated in the heart of the Ozark Mountain region, the Buffalo River flows freely for 135 miles. Established in 1972, the river is one of the few remaining undammed rivers in the United States. The Buffalo River offers rapids, towering bluffs and pristine waters to anyone interested in experiencing the wilderness of the Ozark Mountains.

In late May and early June, our group of 12 Texas Tech students in the Bridge Adventure Program floated 20 miles of the Buffalo River’s middle section while camping along the way.

Hannah Hudgens, a member of Bridge Adventure’s second cohort and an agricultural communications major from Lubbock, Texas, carried along a disposable camera on the float. Hannah captured the candid moments of this special week on the river. Thanks to Hannah and Texas Tech photographers Ashley Rodgers and Justin Rex for letting us share these great images. You can see other great student summer experiences in Texas Tech’s photo series, “Summer through Red Raiders’ Eyes.”
